My health has been it\u2019s usually spotty self. You can crouch and creep through an enemy\u2019s location to pick off stragglers and get yourself into an optimal position for an ambush. You can also separate yourself from your team, spreading yourselves out to cover the most ground in as expedient a manner as possible so you don\u2019t prolong combat (more on that later).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_stealth1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"788\" src=\"https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_stealth1-1400x788.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7606\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_stealth1-1400x788.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_stealth1-700x394.jpg 700w, https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_stealth1-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_stealth1.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">See those gold squares? Think of them like lava. Stand in them and you get spotted.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Initially, you\u2019ll do this in real time, avoiding enemy patrols, moving from cover to cover. You can then get to a good cover point to hide at and switch to another character to move them around, or you can enter \u201cambush\u201d mode. Ambush mode is turn-based and uses the same system as combat, but your foes aren\u2019t aware of you yet and therefore won\u2019t engage you until you alert them to your presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Jade.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"788\" src=\"https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Jade-1400x788.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7607\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Jade-1400x788.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Jade-700x394.jpg 700w, https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Jade-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Jade-2048x1152.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Jade introduces you to the wonderful world of silenced sniper rifles<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have a silent weapon you can eliminate various enemies with sneaky attacks, lure them away with distraction items, or just outright start the whole shebang off with a boom and move directly into standard combat mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a good system that, unfortunately, is absolutely critical in order to succeed.. If you\u2019re the initiator, that means you and all your companions get to make their first actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Combat.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"788\" src=\"https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Combat-1400x788.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7608\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Combat-1400x788.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Combat-700x394.jpg 700w, https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Combat-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Combat.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The UI is fairly well done here without being overwhelming<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Actions are handled via a simple 2 action mechanic: You can move and shoot, move and reload, move a longer distance, move and take another sort of action (such as a power), or just shoot\/use a power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a standard cover system that most tactical game fans will be familiar with. Verticality and line of sight plays a role in combat as well, and you\u2019ll also have the RNG gods to thank if you play on the classic tactical setting; otherwise, maneuvers like flanking are guaranteed hits for both sides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_FullTactical.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"788\" src=\"https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_FullTactical-1400x788.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7609\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_FullTactical-1400x788.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_FullTactical-700x394.jpg 700w, https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_FullTactical-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_FullTactical-2048x1152.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Full tactical: Strongly encouraged.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, that brings me to my first real gripe: Combat gets a little.. Long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your standard enemies can be eliminated in one or two hits typically, but later on you\u2019ll encounter some more powerful enemy types that can just <em>absorb <\/em>punishment.. And some of those can heal or spawn new enemies, making encounters go even longer than you\u2019d like.. And that\u2019s assuming you\u2019re dealing with just ONE wave of enemies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Powers.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"788\" src=\"https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Powers-1400x788.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7610\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Powers-1400x788.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Powers-700x394.jpg 700w, https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Powers-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Powers.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Yeah, that damage level is just pitiful for something akin to Jedi lightning.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This also means that if you failed to plan adequately from the beginning with the ambush system, you\u2019ll end up with at least one or two of your companions downed; Thankfully they\u2019ll get back up after combat is over, albeit at reduced health until you heal them, which leads us into the other criticisms.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class='code-block code-block-4' style='margin: 8px 0; clear: both;'>\n<div id=\"gg_ads_midLeaderboard4\" class=\"gg_ads__adSpot gg_ads__adSpot--midLeaderboard\">\n<script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-8114869302769879\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-8114869302769879\" data-ad-slot=\"5941735973\"><\/ins>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Miasma Chronicles: Far from perfect<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I encountered a handful of bugs in my time playing the game, but thankfully none were show stopping. There were a handful of rendering and movement glitches, and explosions occasionally caused a major performance dip (thankfully less of a concern given the turn-based nature of combat).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The economy, however, is at best boring, and at worst severely broken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Sniper.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"788\" src=\"https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Sniper-1400x788.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7611\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Sniper-1400x788.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Sniper-700x394.jpg 700w, https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Sniper-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Sniper-2048x1152.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Ooh, shiny.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Getting new gear is always exciting.. Although in Miasma Chronicles, most of it fails to land any real impact in gameplay. Sure, there are some unique weapons here and there (such as the disc launcher that can ricochet), but overall there is very little that\u2019ll make you say \u201cOh, I feel powerful now\u201d. Not even the Miasma-based powers have all that much excitement to them, and I more often than not found them fairly bland and only mildly useful.. Which is good, because the resources used to make use of those powers don\u2019t regenerate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Injury.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"788\" src=\"https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Injury-1400x788.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7612\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Injury-1400x788.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Injury-700x394.jpg 700w, https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Injury-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/MC_Injury-2048x1152.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Yeah, try to not get hurt if you can.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You need to use consumables.. A lot. If you\u2019re playing on any difficulty other than the easiest, your best bet is to just spend all your money on healing items: You\u2019ll need them to heal up after battle.. Just be prepared for a slog with a lot of same-ness as you get further and further into the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initial novelty began to wear off for me at around 5 hours, and after that I was just.. Tired. Done.
