And, depending on what you want out of a game, you could possibly say that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Folks like me who play Star Citizen, however, feel differently about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s break down why I don\u2019t think Star Citizen is a scam.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class='code-block code-block-1' style='margin: 8px 0; clear: both;'>\n<div id=\"gg_ads_midLeaderboard1\" class=\"gg_ads__adSpot gg_ads__adSpot--midLeaderboard\">\n<script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-8114869302769879\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-8114869302769879\" data-ad-slot=\"7913841931\"><\/ins>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Star Citizen isn\u2019t a scam (to us)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/xkcd.com\/359\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"449\" height=\"236\" src=\"https:\/\/ghostgamer.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/rock_band.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7653\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Comic courtesy of <a href=\"https:\/\/xkcd.com\/359\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">XKCD<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Look, Star Citizen has been in development for a very, very long time. If it weren\u2019t for the fact that it\u2019s playable as an alpha we\u2019d be calling it the next Duke Nukem Forever or Daikatana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s going to continue to be in development for a long time because of the hopes and aspirations of folks like me who dream for an incredibly detailed game that scratches every single itch we have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sim-style mechanics. A richly detailed universe. Modelling of every single little detail, no matter how insignificant. A vibrant player-influenced economy. Seamless transitions from space to atmosphere and back again. Gorgeous graphics. Immersive FPS combat. Multi-crewed ships. Being able to live a new life as a bounty hunter, trader, scrapper, pirate, and more.. And we can go to jail, break out, and hack a security station to remove our criminal records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While you may point to game A and say it has X feature, game B and note the fact that it can do Y, C has Z, etc.. There is no one game that checks every box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Games like Star Citizen are incredibly complex, and require a lot of folks working together and planning to make everything it has and make it right.. On top of that, they have the goal of making a playable game at the exact same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s not easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Look, I may sound like a RSI apologist, but I\u2019m also someone who has been involved in game development in the past, and make my living as a web developer now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Development is not easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The biggest complaint that can be had with Star Citizen\u2019s development is that it\u2019s got a seriously rough case of feature creep, but, to be honest.. Many of us are somewhat OK with that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We all have a grand vision for what Star Citizen can and should be, and this is a luxury product that we\u2019re squealing in delight for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Star Citizen isn\u2019t for everybody.
